Dear supporter of the anti-war movement,
Thanks to all who donated to support the veterans-led action at the White House last Dec. 16. Now, we need your help to bring young Iraq and Afghanistan war veterans to Washington, D.C., to participate in the March 19 action.
In March 2003, I was sent by the Bush administration to Iraq as a soldier in the U.S. Army. I was 19 years old. Little did I know that my life would never be the same again—nor would the lives of millions of others.
Now, almost eight years later, nearly 5,000 U.S. troops have died. Over 32,000 have been maimed. Over 1 million Iraqis have perished. An entire generation of young soldiers and Iraqis has been psychologically traumatized.
Like countless other soldiers, I came home angry, with the desire to fight back—to end the criminal wars in which we took part, to halt the drive of the war machine, and to hold accountable the government that sent us to die and destroyed the lives of millions, all for profit. We have now dedicated ourselves to building the anti-war movement. But we need your help.
We, who fought in Iraq, find it intolerable that George W. Bush and Cheney and Rumsfeld, can go around the country making millions off of their book deals and vapid speeches while thousands of young veterans live life on one leg or no leg, missing arms and eyes, brain trauma and a lifetime of trauma-induced emotional and psychological problems from engaging in a criminal war of aggression.
We Iraq war veterans joined thousands of other people last week sending a letter to Eric Holder demanding that the Attorney General take action to prosecute Bush and company for their crimes. This is real grassroots democracy in action.
We are fully committed to spreading the message of the Indict BushNow movement and we will bring this message to D.C. when we join with other veterans and people of conscience in less than two weeks on the 8th anniversary of when we landed in Iraq.
On March 19, the 8th anniversary of the invasion of Iraq, many thousands across the country will be marching against the wars. In Washington, D.C., there will be a massive veterans-led civil resistance at the White House initiated by Veterans for Peace. People from all over the country are joining together for a 12 noon rally at Lafayette Park, followed by a march on the White House where the veterans-led civil resistance will take place.
You can make the difference
The voices of anti-war veterans are essential.
We hope each of you will try to join us in Washington, D.C., one week from this coming Saturday.
With your help, many young veterans were able to participate in the Dec. 16, 2010, veterans-led civil resistance action at the White House. Financial contributions from you and others made the difference. Because of that action’s success, many more young veterans from across the United States are anxious to participate, but they can only do so with your assistance.
If you donated in December, please consider donating again today to make March 19 even more significant. If you have yet to contribute to this movement, we urge you to contribute now.
You can help make March 19 the most profound statement yet against wars of aggression and demanding that elected officials who swore to uphold the Constitution be held accountable for the commission of war crimes and torture and deceit that has resulted in so much death and destruction.
